The most recent sculpture of a series of investigations of points and stems, The kenduri at noon is a personal interpretation of a family gathering derived from memory. Kenduri which means in Bahasa, a festive gathering is molded into a rising form implying the progress of the event unfolding in a day’s time frame. Colors native to kenduris are used such as deep maroon of the family members sarongs, strong cobalt blue inspired from the plastic utensils used in the ceremony and the bright yellow-orange taken by the color of the sun and the mid-day heat. Brightly colored and brimming with life, the sculpture was made to illustrate the energy of the event and serves as an insider observation the culture and lifestyle of the contemporary middle-class Malay families.
